Kevin Stewart has been appointed as minister for transport in the Scottish Government by new first minister Humza Yousaf, himself a former transport minister. Mr Stewart is the MSP for Aberdeen Central and was previously minister for mental wellbeing and social care. He replaces Jenny Gilruth, who was only appointed to the transport brief last year and has been promoted to the role of cabinet secretary for education and skills. With the ruling Scottish National Party in turmoil over its finances - as Highways went to press the SNP former treasurer Colin Beattie had been arrested - Mr Stewart inherits a number of contentious issues, including the collapse of the procurement process for the Tomatin to Moy section of the A9 Perth to Inverness dualling. |
