Keith Brett worked his way to the top by siezing some very unexpected opportunities. For instance, he stepped across into the specialist treatments side of the industry partly because he spoke German at a time when he found himself stuck in concrete, so to speak. Due to celebrate his 60th birthday this year, he has worked in the highways industry for two-thirds of his life, with a CV that covers most of the big players in the sector. He is clearly at home in his corner of the industry, as well as his own corner of the country - the Midlands, home of Birmingham-based Kiely Bros, where he has been for 15 years and counting. He comes across as cheerful and amenable but with a hard-headed understanding of the challenges facing the sector, just as he was when Highways first met him at the RSTA's conference at the Belfry in April when he took over as its chair (Highways May 2022). |
