The elected mayor of South Yorkshire, Dan Jarvis, has written scathing letters to First and Stagecoach, criticising both operators for service cuts and fare increases. In the letters, Mayor Jarvis said "I understand the genuine pressures operators are under" and that he and other regional Mayors have raised the lack of funding uncertainty with central government. He states that "it is critical that we act for the long-term" and accuses both operators of interest only in "their short-term bottom line." He incorrectly suggests that Covid subsidies had enabled the operators to keep services running "at a profit," which was specifically forbidden in the terms for the original Covid Bus Services Support Grant. |
