This is a bus book with a difference, showing how Western National, by then part of FirstBus but not yet bent to its new owner's ways, deployed its 225 buses and coaches in Cornwall 26 years ago, including National Express diagrams. Timetables, maps and colour photographs explain this, all presented in the attractive style familiar to those who have bought Keith Shayshutt's earlier books about post-deregulation bus operation in other parts of England. He promises a second volume on Western National's routes in Devon and east Cornwall. This covers a time when 107 of its fleet in Cornwall were Mercedes-Benz minibuses and 59 of its 61 double-deckers were Bristol VRTs already at least 15 years old. |
