Uniquely, municipal bus services in four parts of Yorkshire were provided jointly with the railways. The largest of these was in Sheffield, which differed from Halifax, Huddersfield and Todmorden by having three distinct sub-fleets. The A fleet was owned by Sheffield Corporation and ran all services provided within the 1929 city boundary. The B fleet was owned jointly with the railways and provided medium distance interurban services, while the railway-owned C fleet operated longer distance services. This had two territorial effects: it limited the presence of company buses in the city; and it took Sheffield buses over 40miles away to Gainsborough, Leeds, Bradford and Manchester. |
