Metro mayors in Liverpool and Manchester have both joined in with mayor Tracy Brabin's pledge for a £2 single fare cap in West Yorkshire (Buses last month). Liverpool City Region intends to use most of its £12m BSIP indicative funding allocation towards implementing a maximum £2 fare, leaving a small amount to develop tap-and-go ticketing (from 2024), along with improvements to customer information. Papers issued by the authority state that there is a flat fare structure in place, which is not the case, although there is a limited range of fares. It is hoped that the cap can be introduced alongside network changes in September, including the Halton area, and it will also abolish the fares premium for journeys through the Mersey Tunnels. |
