In the autumn of 2001, speed limits were lowered from 90 km/h to 80 km/h and from 80 km/h to 70 km/h on hazardous road sections in Norway. These road sections had been identified as having a high number of fatal or serious injury accidents per kilometer of road. This report presents an evaluation of the effects these changes in speed limits gave on speed and accidents. It is concluded that lowering the speed limit from 80 km/h to 70 km/h has successfully reduced both speed, the number of injury accidents and the number of injured road users. |
