More than 20,000 people are interviewed in the 2001 Norwegian travel survey. The survey collects information on how often people travel, why people travel, how they travel, and how travel behavior differs with respect to age, gender, place of residence, income, etc. Average trip frequency is 3, 1 trips per day. Most trips are short, 40 percent are shorter than three kilometers, 64 percent of the daily trips are taken in a personal use car (driver or passenger), 26 percent are non-motorized (walking/cycling), and nine percent are done by public transport. During a month, 46 percent of the population makes one or more long distance journeys. Two thirds of these trips are taken in a personal use car, and 19 percent are airplane trips. |
