Many agencies today are faced with the challenge of being sustainable by using recycled materials and limited source of quality aggregates. Thus pavements that combine new asphalt over concrete, and/or 2 lift concrete generally have a long service life with excellent surface characteristics, structural capacity and the ability to be rapidly renewed. However, the majority of roads containing these composite pavements resulted from maintenance and rehabilitation activities. Only few roads are intentionally designed to utilize composite pavements because reliable guidance for designing and using these materials has been lacking. There is a need to develop, design and construction methodology of the composite pavements which are sustainable. In BRO from 1999 to 2001 some work including field trials were carried out by both the authors on very small stretches in order to understand its behavior. The new innovative and out of box ideas needs to be tried out in present scenario. |
