This preliminary study, which is run within the framework of the IRIS program, aims to: a) Carry out a broad literature study on the use of non-nominal approach angles (both steeper and flatter angles) independent of navigation sensor and PBN navigation specification. This literature study includes historical development, previous research, current regulations, aeronautical aspects, air traffic control aspects, environmental aspects and an environmental analysis that aims to provide the latest findings from the international arena. b) Examine whether research and / or studies have been carried out regarding a combination of non-straight (curved) flight paths along with variable approach angles. c) Do flight tests on an Airbus (A320) simulator with a combination of non-straight (curved) flight paths along with variable approach angles and provide flight operational assessments and recommendations. The preliminary study will generate a final report where issues from both the literature study and the flight trials have been identified, which will lead to recommendations for further research, if deemed necessary. |
