摘要: |
A two-step approach to driver education may be the prescription needed to fight the epidemic of inexperienced drivers dying on our nation's highways. The first stage of driver education would involve the student learning the basic skills and handling characteristics of the vehicle, all of which has been a traditional part of the driver education curriculum. Stage two would focus on complex issues facing drivers including decision making, alcohol awareness, and night driving. A focus on problem drivers should also be included in the second stage of the curriculum. The new system should also include driver improvement intervention for problem novice drivers and intervention should be initiated early if modification of negative behavior is to be effective. Another selling point of the two-stage curriculum is the incentive of having an unrestricted license for completing the program. |
