John Sisk, Farrans and Osborne are bidding for an £8m deal to carry out improvements to Junction eight of the M11 at Bishops Stortford for Essex County Council. An invitation to tender was sent out in February and a decision on the winning bid is imminent as work is due to start next month. Jacobs is already on board advising the council on the project, which will take around two years to complete and is intended to reduce congestion around the junction at peak times. The council first began looking into improving access at the junction in 2017 and two years later the Department for Transport agreed funding for the work from the National Productivity Investment Fund. The work comprises widening the south and northbound slip roads and improving the adjacent junction with the A120 junction by replacing a roundabout with a signal-controlled junction. This will improve access between the M11 and A120 with London Stansted Airport, Bishop's Stortford, Birchanger Services and Takeley and improve capacity ahead of planned developments in the north of Bishop's Stortford, East Hertfordshire and Uttlesford. |
