THIS RESEARCH IS IN TWO PARTS: PART 1 DEALS WITH THE STUDY OF INJURIES SUSTAINED DURING LATERAL IMPACT, PART 2 IS CONCERNED WITH THE RECONSTRUCTION OF REAL ACCIDENTS WITH A VIEW TO OBTAINING A BETTER EVALUATION OF HUMAN TOLERANCE DURING REAL IMPACTS. (1) LATERAL IMPACT: THE MAIN OBJECTIVE IS THE STUDY OF ACCIDENT SEVERITY WITH A VIEW TO INVESTIGATING THE ROLE OF INTRUSION IN INJURY CAUSATION. (2) ACCIDENT RECONSTRUCTION: IN ORDER TO ESTABLISH A BETTER RELATION BETWEEN THE PARAMETERS OBTAINED FROM ANTHROPOMETRIC DUMMIES OR CADAVERS, ACCIDENTS STUDIED DURING A TWO-DISCIPLINARY SURVEY WERE RECONSTRUCTED AS FAITHFULLY AS POSSIBLE. THESE ACCIDENTS ARE SELECTED ACCORDING TO WELL-DEFINED CRITERA (DIRECTION OF IMPACT, SEVERITY, RESTRAINT SYSTEMS USED, TYPE OF VEHICLE, AGE) SO THAT THEY ARE REPRESENTATIVE OF ACCIDENTS FREQUENTLY HAPPENING IN REAL TRAFFIC. |
