Every year at least 300 people are injured in traffic accidents in connection with roadworks in Sweden. Most of the injured are road users but about 5 percent are road workers. About 55 percent of the injured road workers carried out some form of winter maintenance work, usually plowing. Many accidents are rear end collisions when road users drive into slow moving winter maintenance vehicles. The project aims at reducing the number of rear end collisions by increasing the visibility of the winter maintenance vehicles.
