The aim is to develop a simplified design method for rail tunnels with passenger services(no freight) that are exposed to fire. The benefit is a method which allows a reduction of investment costs in the tunnel project through the ability to select a different time / temperature curve than the very conservative curves otherwise used. Background to the analytical method, to be further developed, are based on the article, which is authored by Ying Zhen Li and Haukur Ingason, The maximum ceiling gas temperature in a large tunnel fire, Fire Safety Journal 48.38, 2012 (attached). The project does not include further development of existing analytical method but rather an adaptation. |
