The project will study seven scenarios that focus on the introduction of different types of energy efficient road vehicles in the Swedish transport system between now and 2050. Each scenario is analysed in terms of costs and benefits for Swedish society: macroeconomic impacts (GDP, employment and automotive sector competitiveness); and environmental impacts (carbon intensity, emissions and air quality). The effects for individual motorists (fuel bills and total cost of use) will also be examined. The project adapts a model developed by Cambridge Econometrics in cooperation with European Climate Foundation that has been applied to road transport in the UK, France, Germany and Holland. The existing model includes only four scenarios that focus on light vehicles and different degrees of technological change (no change, electric, hybrid and fuel cell vehicles). The project will expand the model to include heavy vehicles, biofuels, electrified roads and mobility services in Sweden. |
