Knowledge of human behavior and walking speed in smokey condition is very limited. It results in large uncertainties associated with the calculation and modeling of the total evacuation time when, for example when new underground structures are designed. Deterministic and overly conservative models and methods is therefore used in the development of safety concepts, which can lead to expensive solutions, such as unnecessarily short distances between the escape routes in tunnels. The proposed feasibility study intends to describe the current state of research, clarify how the information currently available should be used in practical applications as well as provide suggestions for future research that can reduce existing uncertainties. |
