摘要: Third quarter total Brazilian soybean transportation costs to Shanghai and Hamburg increased 15 to 27 percent over the same period last year, following the trend set in the previous quarter. The cost of shipping a metric ton of soybeans 100 miles by truck increased 34 percent from $6.88 in January to $9.23 in September. Truck rates rose due to the following factors: a rush to meet soybean deliveries for waiting vessels; the beginning of a competing corn harvest; the increased risk of carrying a higher cargo value caused by the rise in soybean farm prices; and a decline in truck supply in the Center West region. Third quarter ocean rates increased 7 to 18 percent over 2006, driven by tight vessel supply, congestion in Australia, and Chinas increased coal demand. Even though total transportation costs increased, they declined as a percentage of totallanded costs by 3 to 14 percent for all routes to Shanghai and Hamburg as farm prices soared 22 to 45 percent higher than the same period last year.
