Moisture damage is one of the biggest problems when it comes to bituminous mixtures. Polymer modification is used to improve moisture resistance as well as fatigue and rutting performance of the bituminous mixtures. High production temperature is the drawback which is associated with Polymer Modified Bitumen (PMB) mixtures. This drawback can be solved by using Warm Mix Asphalt (WMA) modification with PMB modification. So the present paper used both these modification methods separately and together to examine their effect on moisture susceptibility of bituminous mixtures. Results obtained from Marshall Stability, Indirect Tensile Strength (ITS), Retained stability and Tensile Strength Ratio (TSR) tests showed that both warm mix modification and polymer modification improves the moisture resistance of the mixtures. Using these two together resulted in a mixture having a production temperature 20°C lower than PMB while showing improved moisture susceptibility. |
