摘要: Finite Element(FE)models of Anthropomorphic Test Devices(ATD),commonly known as crash test dummies, are used in evaluation of the automotive crashworthiness and ensure occupants' safety. The HⅢ 5th Crash Test Dummy is a 5th percentile small female dummy, which is employed in the 2nd row seat occupant for the full width and 40%ODB frontal impacts as the regulatory requirement for China-NCAP(C-NCAP).The harmonized version of the dummy hardware is made by combining corresponding former FTSS and Denton dummies to standardize the hardware and reduce test variability. The FE development of the harmonized H3-5th dummy followed immediately the hardware finalization.Thorax is one of the crucial components in the dummy to evaluate occupants' injuries. The current study describes development of the thorax for the harmonized H3-5th dummy. The main enhancements are carried out in implementing the harmonized SAE jacket and meeting both 3.0 and 6.71 m/s thorax certification requirements as part of the regulatory requirements for the EuroNCAP.The geometry, connectivity and inertial properties for the model are obtained from available drawings and hardware. The model's material properties are determined from physical test data after numerical parameter extraction and verification through test simulations, enabling characterization using the state of the art material modeling techniques. The model was then validated against a series of sub-assembly and full dummy level tests.Selective validation tests related to thorax certification, single rib drop test and thorax pendulum impact test, are introduced in this paper. The result showed a high level of predictive capabilities of the developed thorax model.
