摘要: Aggregate gradation and bitumen are two key factors that influence the engineering properties of bituminous mixes. It is important to understand behavior of bituminous mixtures in field for improving pavement performance. Bitumen is a viscoelastic material and quality and quantity of bitumen plays a significant role in both elastic and as well as viscous properties of the bituminous mix. With current trend towards developing mechanistic flexible pavement design procedures and need for more reliable pavement design procedures, accurate characterization of bituminous mix properties is most important. In India, Indian Roads Congress guidelines (IRC:37-2012) have been used for design of flexible pavements and this method uses elastic modulus of mix as input to the pavement design. Repeated Indirect Tensile Test (IDT) can be performed on the mix to evaluate elastic modulus at a given temperature under standard loading time and rest period. However number of studies claims that use of dynamic modulus value of the mix evaluated by Dynamic Modulus Test (DMT) using Simple Performance Tester (SPT) that has ability to simulate real traffic conditions to a greater extent would facilitate better pavement performance (NCHRP Report 465, 2002, Dongre et al., 2005). Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design (MEPDG 2002) is one of the examples of such designs that use dynamic modulus value of the mix as input parameter. Adoption of such pavement designs requires DMT facilities which are generally costly. To overcome this, development of correlation of IDT data with DMT data would felicitate to estimate dynamic modulus of the mix. In the present study an attempt has been made to establish correlation between elastic modulus and dynamic modulus of different Indian bituminous mixes so as to estimate dynamic modulus from elastic modulus of the mix.
