摘要: |
The growth of congestion in Northeastern Illinois has been the subject of significant concern. A focused effort known as Operation Green Light was put in place in 1990 to attack the problem. A significant component of the program is aimed at maximizing the capabilities of the existing traffic systems. ADVANCE, the Advanced Driver and Vehicle Advisory Navigation Concept, is a direct result of the Operation Green Light initiative. Whereas previous IDOT efforts in traffic information and management focused either on expressway or major arterials, ADVANCE aims at providing information for a roadway network in a 250 square mile area in the Chicago suburbs. ADVANCE is an operational test involving up to 5000 vehicles which will be instrumented with in-vehicle computers and radio equipment. The vehicles will be provided with route guidance in a real time framework using information from existing sources and will also act as traffic probes to provide significant additional information. |
