TravInfo is a Field Operational Test of advanced traveler information systems for the San Francisco Bay Area, sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration. The project involves a PUB Published by: lic/private partnership which seeks to compile, integrate and broadly disseminate timely and accurate multi-modal traveler information through commercial products and services. The PUB Published by: lic sector component centers on the Traveler Information Center, which collects and integrates both static and dynamic traveler information. Private sector participation includes Information Service Providers who refine the information and disseminate it to end users. The evaluation of TravInfo consists of four major elements: (1) institutional, (2) technology, (3) traveler response, and (4) network performance. The Traveler Information Center study is part of the technology evaluation element and consists of four primary elements namely system reliability, operator interface, communications interface and response time analysis. Operator interface investigates the human element by examining the role of the operator in the flow of information through the Traveler Information Center, the operators' tasks and responsibilities required to perform these tasks, and the operators' physical working environment. This report provides results from interviews conducted with Traveler Information Center personnel and is the first component of the Operator Interface evaluation. The study will seek to determine all information flows into and out of the Traveler Information Center and assess the level of operator interface and attention required for each data flow. |
