TravInfo TM is a regional traveler information system in the San Francisco Bay Area. A Field Operational Test was performed on it over a two-year period. TravInfo's goal was to broadly disseminate comprehensive, timely and reliable information on traffic conditions and multi-modal travel options to the public in the Bay Area. At TravInfo's core is a centralized data fusion hub, the Traveler Information Center, which collects, processes, and disseminates information to the public and private sector information service providers. The evaluation of TravInfo contained an investigation of the operation of the Traveler Information Center. Initial expectation was that it would be considerably more automated than it ultimately was and so the Traveler Information Center's effectiveness was largely dependent on the human element, its operators. Operator workload system support of operators, operator performance, and the physical working environment were each examined to assess their contribution to the Traveler Information Center's and hence, to TravInfo TM 's overall effectiveness. |
